What is Marketing? And How Do I Market My Services?

Very simply, marketing is about letting your future clients know you are out
there, ready and willing to help get them to their goals. I have often heard it
said that it takes five interactions with someone to have sustained enough of a
relationship for them to decide to approach you seeking your services. This is
most commonly accomplished by way of newsletters, free seminars, e-books
and a first free session.

Attracting Clients

How do clients contact you? This is the basic (and most ideal) formula for
attracting clients: a potential client finds your web site on the Internet (how
they do this is explained below), and after viewing your web site and
receiving your free resource, they call your toll free number to book a free
session.

Another possible scenario: you are at a neighborhood function and after
talking with someone for awhile, you bring up that you are a coach. “What’s a
coach?” they ask. You respond with something along the lines of “I help
people, like yourself (important to make it personal), achieve the goals they
have been putting off.” or “I assist people, like yourself, to live the life they
have been dreaming of…”. Then you hand a business card (with your name,
phone number and web site address) over to them and let them know that if
they ever want to continue this conversation or if there is ever anything they
want to talk about, you offer a free session and would be more then happy to
get together. This is commonly known as the elevator speech. An elevator
speech is a description of what you do so short that it can be said in an
elevator in enough time before the person gets off. It is a few sentences that
encompass what you do and how you would assist them in their life. Since
you don’t them that well yet, it must be somewhat generic:

“I assist professionals, like yourself, in achieving and maintaining the lifestyle
they desire.”

You Are Your Greatest Marketing Tool

Take these words to heart: you are your greatest marketing tool. A very basic
principle of attracting clients is to live the life you would want for them. I
understand that not everyone has the same idea as to what their “ideal” life is,
but contentment is universal. Become content with your life. Whatever is not
working in your life right now, repair it. You must live by example. I am not
saying that your life must be viewed by others as perfect, your house could be
a complete mess 6 out of 7 days, but if that is ideal for you, then when talking
to your potential clients they will sense that your life is in order and that you
are content and it will act as extra motivation for them to seek out your
coaching services.Web Advertising
Having your site featured on the Internet alone is not enough. People often try
to search for websites they’ve created by using search engines (such as
google.com ), only to be surprised when their site does not pop up. It takes
time and certain criteria for your site to be listed on the first page of search
results. The necessary criteria will be covered in the web site section of your
lessons. Below we discuss a common option that people use until their site is
receiving a high search engine ranking. This option is known as pay per click
advertising.
